Doe

About

Jiminy Luke Doe (he/him) is an artist, poet, theorist, curator, mentor and teacher. One of the most influential British artists working today but until now something of an "artist's artist," he was awarded the Turner Prize in 2023 for his characteristically disruptive, humorous and empathetic sculptural installations. Doe’s work speaks directly to the prevailing crisis and confusion of the current moment, repurposing familiar objects and situations to create strange and uncanny encounters. His books include poetry chapbook Virgins, now on its second print run, and Showgirls, a photo zine published on the occasion of his Turner Prize film commission. A selection of his collected writings will be published in 2025.

Project

Taking Jean Genet’s Our Lady of the Flowers as a starting point, and combining this with a thematic mood board spanning end-of-the-pier entertainments, Punch and Judy shows, circus and pantomime, Jiminy Luke Doe will embark upon an ambitious new project to produce a new feature-length musical. The score will draw on an archive of original music written during Doe’s former life as the frontman and lead songwriter of a band. During his time as an associate, Doe will write, score, research and develop the musical for presentation at LPS in 2025.
