Objects and Atmospheres
Geraldine Pilgrim is an award-winning site-specific performance director/designer/installation artist and educator working across theatre and the visual arts. She is most recently known for her socially engaged participatory site-specific performances and installations, which create a contemporary dialogue with occupied and empty buildings, landscapes, and historic houses. Her particular site work specializes in performances and installations in unusual buildings and landscapes where the architecture of the site is used as inspiration and narrative, gradually revealing memories and atmospheres that have built up over the years, together with the history - imagined and real - of the space. Her performances and installations in the UK and mainland Europe have taken place in empty and occupied Office Blocks, Schools, Hotels, Swimming Pools, Factories and Hospitals as well as Cemeteries, Castles, Stately Homes and Public Parks. Geraldine has been commissioned by Heritage organisation’s including: Kew Gardens, Harewood House, Stourhead, Wakehurst, National Railway Museum York,14-18NOW, National Trust, English Heritage, and the Royal Pavilion Brighton.

Trained as a fine artist and theatre designer, she co- founded and became Artistic Director of Hesitate and Demonstrate the influential visual theatre company which toured Britain and mainland Europe and has since been making large and small- scale site-specific performances, installations and theatre- based work.
From 2019 - 2024 Geraldine created and led until its closure an MA in site- specific theatre practice for Mountview which was based in Shoreditch Town Hall. She is an Associate Lecturer at Central St Martins UAL and a Visiting Lecturer at Goldsmiths College. Geraldine has held workshops and run courses for emerging and established practitioners, writers, designers, actors, directors, students, postgraduates and theatre companies and led both summer and winter schools throughout the UK, Spain, the Netherlands and Italy.
