The Orchard

Living Pictures is currently working on research and development for The Orchard, envisioned as an intimate, script-in-hand reading of a new play.

The work will examine our ties to the earth as resource, refuge and real estate, and speaks to the resurgence of a pre-revolutionary pessimism, asking what needs to die for new systems to be born. It follows a dysfunctional family on their ailing apple orchard over two hot nights one summer, as they take stock of their lives and the land they depend on.

Taking the plays of Anton Chekhov as a starting point, Living Pictures and the acting company devised the piece to give focus to the minutiae of relationships gone to seed.

Dates and Times

The Orchard is being developed across the Spring Season. Sharing dates and further info to follow in Autumn.

About

Living Pictures is a sector-leading theatre training organisation that focuses on providing creative and professional development for theatre makers less represented in the arts. It was founded in 1999 by Elen and Robbie Bowman to provide training in Active Analysis and Meisner technique for directors and actors. In 2014, the organisation acquired a piece of land in Wales where it is now primarily based, which marked a shift in the organisation’s focus towards environmental and community initiatives, retreats alongside professional theatre training and stage productions.
