TRASHHHEAP

Scraphole is a two-day workshop led by Jean and Cabbage the Clown, alternative drag performers whose practices rely heavily on using found objects and discarded materials.

Over the course of the two-days, participants will:

-Make props and costumes from discarded material

-Use found objects as stimulus for a new act or character

-Develop costumes and visuals to reflect the world of the character and the themes of the act

The workshop will culminate in a sharing of each participant’s new or developed piece of solo performance.

This workshop is aimed at drag, cabaret, and alternative comedy performers who wish to refine their visual identity and make their practice more sustainable. Participants with any level of performance and costume-making experience are welcome, and are invited to bring in an existing act or character to develop, or nothing at all.

About

Jean is a shape-shifting, gender-bending drag alien from a planet made of trash. They have performed across theatre and nightlife spaces in the UK and USA, including the Victoria and Albert Museum, The National Theatre, EartH Hackney, Bethnal Green Working Men’s Club, Clapham Grand, Slipper Room (NYC) and The Divine. They won Top of the Slops S4 and were a finalist of Man Up! (2024). Their work has been featured in National Geographic, Cold Magazine, The New Current and Up After Dark. When not in drag, Jean (Sophia Hirsch by day), works as a freelance performance tutor and director on the BA and MA performance courses at Mountview.

Cabbage is a drag vegetable. A lettuce but sadder. Winner of Top of the Slops (2022) Not another drag competition (2023) and your heart (2025, right now). They have performed at venues across the UK, such as National Theatre, The Pleasance Dome, Soho Theatre, Leicester Square for Pride, Cardiff Millenium Centre, The British Library and internationally in Frankfurt. Their debut solo show, Cinemadrome, was named in the British Comedy Guide’s list of Best 50 Reviewed Shows of Edinburgh Fringe, 2025. After Edinburgh, Cinemadrome received a SoHo Theatre transfer and UK tour. Graduating with a BA in Costume Construction from Central in 2022, Cabbage has extensive experience as a professional costumer and have worked as a Costume Assistant, maker and Costume Supervisor.
