About

Raphel Famotibe (he/him) is an artist born and raised in South East London whose practice encompasses acting, writing, directing and producing. He trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts and has since acted in multiple acclaimed roles, including the lead in the BAFTA-nominated and Oscar-shortlisted short Wale, and Wonderboy at Bristol Old Vic. His play I Love Acting But F*ck This Industry sold out at Theatre Peckham Fringe and made a return. Famitobe also appeared in BBC’s BAFTA-winning Damilola, Our Loved Boy.

Project

Famotibe’s association with London Performance Studios will focus on the creation of a new immersive multilingual performance informed by the canon of historical and contemporary theatres of Africa and the African Diaspora. Throughout his time, he will explore interests in film, DJ-ing, and devised practices, in preparation for a period of research and development in Africa. Public touch points for the project will include a public discussion series and an African play reading group which will build towards a new touring production.
